Marta was here a few weeks ago for a visit.
She came along with her father who had some conferences to attend in the states.
Part of her time here was allocated for tutoring in English reading, and the rest of it was just for fun.
I think she really had a nice time and she made some friends here as well.
One day we set out for the “City”… that would be New York City for those of you who live elsewhere .
We, us Islanders and the folks north of “the city”, call it that because we secretly believe that there is no other “real” city in the world.
During our train ride into “the city” Marta and I chatted a bit about things like where we were going, and what the Christmas Show at Radio City was going to be about.
Although she was very excited about seeing this Christmas Show her main focus was on something that we had been planning for at least a year, our shopping trip to American Girl.
The American Girl Store is on 49th street and 5th Avenue. http://www.americangirl.com/stores/location_ny.php
This was the day when she would get to pick out her own American Girl Doll.
It was High Drama as you can see by the photo.
She chose a doll that had a very strong resemblance to her and she named this doll, Lilly Fey Philadelphia …and I have not a clue to the reason why.
While we were sitting having lunch in the cafe at AG…we had some time to chat.
We were talking about the up and coming birth of her new baby cousin Madeleine.
She asked why she was arriving a week early and in a different way then the way she was born …via tushie as she said.
I told her that she was coming out (C Section) because Suzie had a baby (Liam) this way a little over a year ago and so they wouldn’t let her come out the other way.
I mentioned to Marta that she too was an early bird baby and she said
”I was ” … yes I said.
She sat in her chair her new dolly Lilly sitting next to her and chewed on her carrot sticks .
She looked around the restaurant with it’s striped wallpaper and pink accents.
It is decorated in a style that is not unlike being in the pages of a little girls story book.
This Cafe is little girl heaven and everything there is all about being a little girl.
After taking in the room she looked at me and said, ”Mimi, (long pause) I think I know why I came out early, you see Mimi it was very boring in there, I mean I had no clothes, I had no toys and I couldn’t get out to get any, I mean, I couldn’t even go shopping she said her voice now pitching upward to support her moment of absolute knowing.
As I sat there trying to keep the “pink lemonade” from exiting thru my nostrils I said to her, ”Marta I too am very sure that this was the very reason you decided to come out early.
*Thank you blog for giving a place to share such wonderful moments with my grand children like this one.
Now we have another little one to write about.
Baby Madeleine arrived on November 16th at 10:07 am… and I bet she too can’t wait to go shopping.
