The Peanut
” The Peanut”
On this past Tuesday morning we all anxiously awaited some very exciting news.  My son Ian and his wife Suzanne were off for their 20 week ultra sound.  There was a very good possibility that we would know the sex of this little “peanut”,  as they like to call their growing little one. I have been through this twice before. The first time with Marta who made us wait till her 8 month ultra sound,  and then with no drama Anna who quietly just told us she was a girl.
For some who may not  know Ian & Suzie very well, they love sports.  They are both devoted Yankee (baseball) fans and New York Jets football fans. For that reason everyone was just assuming that this “peanut” was going to be a boy…Suzie and Ian just needed to have a boy.  I had a different feeling about this.
Suzie would be a great mother no matter boy or girl . She has spent many hours playing Barbie with Marta and allowing her to put silly things in her hair .    Ian loves his nieces so much.  He has had princess crowns attached to his head …has played and pushed swings, assembled princess tents and sand boxes and helped Marta to learn to swim…he has always been a great uncle to his little girls..
They have taken the girls to that little girl shop at the mall that sells all things pink, feathery and sparkly always coming back with some great treasure.
But Monday wasn’t about Marta or Anna…nor Julia, Maggie or Quinn ..Suzie’s nieces and nephew,  Monday was just about …”the peanut” .It was their day…the day when becoming  a family would begin to become a  reality.
A  little before noon the phone rang… it was Ian… a deep breath..
Hello I said..
Hey Mom!  do we know I asked  “yep we do he said”  I could feel his smile as he said ..”it’s a boy”!!!…I was so excited..you would think that this had never happen to another mother.
I must have told him 20 times how happy & excited I was…
Suzie followed up with the ultra sound photos and there he was the little peanut… just chillin…and looking remarkably like his very proud and happy father.
Congratulation Ian & Suzie ….and only 18 more weeks to go!
Oh did I mention how excited I am!!!
