The other night at about 8pm (20)pm the phone rang here. It was Marta up in the middle of the night and missing her Mimi.  My first question was “it’s the middle of the night Marta why are you up.” I’m not tired she replied, so we talked about simple things like where her stuffed animal Ruby the Donkey was,  and if she had seen her friend Riinu and what being back in school was like. I miss you Mimi she said, I want you to come here and snuggle with me and rub my back so I can go to sleep.   I explained that I was on the other side of the Earth and as much as I wished that I could be there it just wasn’t possible.  She was quiet for a few seconds and then she said …I have an idea maybe we could get a big plane, bigger than the one that we went on …and we could put your house in it fly it over here and put it in our backyard…really Mimi it will work !! it would fit !!  Then I could go outside in my yard to your house and come in and visit and be with Hannah the dog and we could be together … all of us,  it’s perfect she said with glee.

Oh Miss Marta I said it is perfect,  and I so wish I could live in your backyard so we could be together but my house won’t fit in a plane, even a big big plane she asked, no honey I don’t think so.  She was very sad and quiet,   Mimi I am tired now,  okay sweetie I said. I am sending you big warm hugs and kisses so go to sleep with Ruby and hug her and you will fall fast asleep…

Goodnight Marta , sleep tight.   I love you Mimi …I love you too Marta….

Such is the life of a  Mimi and her grandaudie who live so, so far away from one another….      Goodnight sweetie…I love you .

Oh Mimi …the poor Chicken

Marta’s Mimi has made a special and easy chicken recipe since Justin and Ian were little guys.  It is very simple a bit of mayonaise to coat the chicken parts seasoned bread crumbs some pepper and chicken cut into parts.. bake high heat for 45 minutes.  Marta loves this one of her favorits dinners and eats at least 2 chicken legs each time I make it.

Last week I was preparing this for dinner.  I had washed the pieces off and had them on the counter ready for coating and Marta,  who is now well above the counter height wandered by to check out how dinner was coming along.                        There was a piece of the chicken with a red area on it… and she looked at it and said ”Mimi what is that ? Is that blood on the chicken? ..”yes I said,  it is a bit”     ” Oh Mimi she said the poor chicken” . I said yes we eat chickens… “Oh she said with such saddness the poor poor chicken and then sort of wandered away.

I called out to Epp as my hands were full of bread crumbs and told her what had just happened and she said  “oh yes she is begining to understand these things now…”

Life is beginning to become less innocent now…all the purity of being a toddler will give way to the realities of childhood and life…at that moment I realized that growing up was not all playgrounds, adventures, new DVD’s and dolls but some sad & cruel realities. I wish I could protect her from all this “reality”  but how would or could I.  If you  you were wondering how dinner went that evening …she ate her customary 2 chicken legs so I guess she worked it out in her own little way and hunger won out over all…

They’re gone all of them….
My almost 5 months with Marta and on and off weeks with Anna is now finito…
I always feel guilty for not feeling as bad about saying goodbye to Justin and Epp…. Justin is my son, my child the one that I have sobbed rivers over, and yet I am missing my grandaudies so much.
I guess it’s because I have a certain amount of hostility and because I blame Justin for my having to miss them in the first place …
Justin & Epp giveth and then taketh away…
leaving my emotional world out of my control…

Marta has been calling in the middle of the Easti night 3am EET.
I miss you Mimi , I drew you a picture of me today.
Will you send my roller blades?
I will, even though I know she will never use them because Easti weather is not roller blade friendly. I will send them anyway because she asked ..
Will you get me a scooter she asks….. what… a scooter I say..
Perhaps Santa will bring it.. Does she associate me with “buying”…
I guess I have created that…But I’m not sending a scooter..nope no way..Santa can bring it…
Miss my girls and all the girl stuff that comes with being with them.
The dolls the Barbie’s (I never liked Barbies) but now well I like them because
Marta likes them…
She is a much more girly girl then I was…I wonder what Anna bella will be like…at the moment she a big fan of toothbrushes …I am finding them all over the house..her personal stash of her little toothbrush friends.
Epp thinks that we might have a budding Dentist in our family..
Miss you my babies and you have only been gone just a week…

Marta is a Mermaid & Anna is Sunshine Bear

Marta is a Mermaid & Anna is Sunshine Bear

Halloween has always held a special place in my heart…
As a young child the idea of a fun costume and free candy was always a reason to welcome in the fall season…As roudy teenagers it became more of a reason to use toilet paper to decorate trees and use eggs and shaving creme to decorate one another.
As I moved into adulthood (never quite sure if I have ever really done that) it was a time for costume parties and friends.
When my children came along it gave me the opportunity to make some great costumes and to re-enjoy the trick or treating experience..even our late retriever dog LeRoy trailed along and ate all of the Kit Kat bars….his personal favorites.
To have Marta and Anna here for Halloween this year was a great experience for me as well as them..
I hope that they will live here (not in my house) in the future so they can experience many years of pumpkin carving..costume wearing and a day that is just good fun at any age….
